Brick Catalog

With this catalog, my interest was in exploring associations I could make with a seemingly mundane object, and understanding the complexities of a simple building block: the common brick. I made a list of 100 words that I could associate with a brick in some way, and arranged them sequentially to form something of a narrative: beginning with brick as raw material, on to processes of construction and human labor, historical associations, types of structures, to a brick as a destructive element, as evidence of deterioration, and eventually fragmenting and becoming dust.
